can't get image from send intent in lollipop

I have been googling and fiddling for hours, just to find out that the problem was not (only) my code but mainly lollipop! I want to create a new sharing app that receives data from other apps using ACTION_SEND. This tutorial is great, but does not work on my nexus 9 with lollipop 5.1.1. Apparently the sharing of images works just fine with other apps like evernote so clearly there is a right way of doing things. Could anyone oblige to point me in the right direction?
